19th C. Paper Mache Hand Painted Dogs Writing Lap Desk

Quite special 19th century English black paper mache ladies writing slope/desktop with hand painted dogs on the top. Dog paintings are quite rare and sought after.

The ornate gilt accents and hand painting is exquisite. The interior opens to a flat surface is lined with fading purple velvet and includes compartments for pens, paper and what would have been an inkwell.

It has a lock, but key not included. When closed it measures 10-1/2" long by 8" wide and stands 3-1/2" tall.  Excellent condition. The hinges are a bit loose, but it does hold together.
