Victorian Gutta Percha Carved Floral Locket Necklace

Beautiful Victorian gutta-percha carved floral locket pendant with a lovely rosary link chain. The locket is ornately carved and opens to a compartment that can house two photos.

The chain consists of oval-shaped links ending with a metal hook clasp. It measures 19" long not including the locket. The locket measures 1-3/8" tall by approx. 1-1/4" wide. Excellent condition.

Gutta-percha is derived from tropical trees indigenous to Southeast Asia. The sap from the trees formed a latex which allowed the Victorians to create jewelry, furniture as well as dentistry. Blocks of gray, black and brown were used by the artists to create the pieces.

Exquisitely produced, this pendant is a wonderful piece of Victorian history and makes a lovely statement!
