Victorian Gutta Percha Cross Necklace

Spectacular Victorian gutta-percha chunky link chain with a beautiful cross pendant. 

The chain is a series of graduated thick links ending with a metal clasp. It measures 20" long not including the cross. The cross measures 2-1/4" tall by 1-1/4". Excellent condition/

Gutta-percha is derived from tropical trees indigenous to Southeast Asia. The sap from the trees formed a latex which allowed the Victorians to create jewelry, furniture as well as dentistry. Blocks of gray, black and brown were used by the artists to create the pieces.

Exquisitely produced, this pendant is a wonderful piece of Victorian history and makes a lovely statement!
